It’s every little girl’s dream to have a dollhouse. Whether you want to buy one for your princess’s birthday or it’s another occasion, I have good news for you. You can make a dollhouse with your little girl at home with very limited supplies. Then why spend a big sum of money on a store-bought dollhouse when DIY Dollhouse is a better alternative? For this purpose, I have compiled an easy step-by-step guide. So, let’s get started!
Supplies you need
- 1 standard size Cardboard Box
- Painters Tape
- Glue Sticks
- Hot Glue Gun
- Cutting Knife
- Cutting surface
- Circle Punch
- Black Permanent Marker
- Material for the interior of walls
- Spray Paint (preferably lighter tone)
- More sheets of cardboard (for flooring etc.)
Step:1 Basic framework
First of all, remove the flaps of the cardboard as per the requirement of the design. For the bottom flaps, tape them precisely. Now the cardboard roughly looks how the dollhouse is supposed to look.
Use the spray paint to paint the entire cardboard. Try to pick a lighter shade, preferably white or baby pink to make it more appealing. Also, you can be creative and add wallpapers of choice on the inside walls. For that, you’ll be needing scrapbook paper of different designs in the desired size.
Step:3 Add doors/windows
Cut the layout of the doors and windows on the cardboard. Then add a door frame for the door and a window frame for windows. You can either use a glue stick or hot glue gun for this step.
Step: 4 Add floors
Using a cardboard sheet, you can add floors to the dollhouse as well. Within this site, it is suitable to add just one floor to the house. Use a glue gun and make sure the sheet of the floor sticks well to the cardboard.
Step:5 Add wall partitions
Add wall partitions at desired places to mark separate rooms. You can be very creative in this step and design the entire interior all by yourself.
Step:6 Add floor and roof
You can add a cover to the floor such as a thin ply sheet or a scrap paper sheet with a wooden pattern.
Select a unique and complementing dark color for the roof. It can also have a textured pattern but that totally depends on you. Make a canopy out of it and use it for the roof.
Step:7 Final touches
The dollhouse is almost ready. Give it the final touches. Remove the excess paper and glue. Also, add a few furniture articles. You can find them at stores, at your homes, or you can even make them out of cardboard. This is totally up to you how you customize the interior.
If you do this DIY project along with your child, you both will have a great time while making it. She will love what it turns out to be and you will love the happiness on her face. So, do give it a try.
